Overview
A heavy build "battleship era" Irwin, the original 43 aft cockpit sloop, with a spacious cockpit and interior, a tall bow flared to shed seas and generous freeboard the ride will be comfortable in 6-7 foot seas, making her a very capable blue water and long excursion cruiser.
Down below is a large main cabin with plenty of seating, galley with stove and a large, refrigerated ice box, head with shower, forward berth, and two aft quarter berths... room for many, a luxury for two.
The owner sailed on this boat for years before purchasing from the prior owner and has since undertaken significant renovation and improvements.
The original Westerbeke 30 hp engine was replaced with a 60 hp Perkins, with the entire driveline upgraded to handle the increased power, and virtually all plumbing and wiring for both the machinery and domestic systems replaced as well.
The mast was refurbished and all the standing and running rigging replaced, and the entire cabin sole has been professionally replaced with beautiful, tough bamboo.
The centerboard has been pinned at five feet of draft, a reversible modification, because the owner did not like the design of the lift mechanism and felt the boat performed fine without the deployed centerboard, and as a long-distance cruiser he did not wish to risk being stuck with it down.
Fully equipped with ample and serviceable sail inventory, safety gear, and spares, this boat is ready to take you anywhere you wish to go.

The classical lines of the Irwin 43 signal her immediately as a world cruiser with the capacity to handle the longest passages swiftly. Her generous sail area gives excellent light air performance together with the ease of handling the ketch rig affords. Safety is stressed from the bow pulpit aft along the bulwarked deck with lifelines to the stern-railed cockpit. Auxiliary power comes from the Perkins 4-154 diesel engine with controls pedestal-mounted along with the wheel steering and binnacle compass. The Irwin 43 is an aft cockpit design, yet features an aft owner's stateroom with double berth, built-in vanity, hanging locker, and head just a step away. The main salon incorporates an unusually large dinette which converts to a double berth, and features a navigator's chart table, plus the living space required for comfortable extended cruising. The galley is functionally designed and equipped for self-sufficiency afloat with a gimbaled propane stove with oven, AC/DC refrigerator, icebox, pressure water, and the amount of preparation and storage space essential for living aboard. Forward is another completely private stateroom with large V-berth, hanging locker, built-in storage, and head with shower stall.
