Overview

This Carver 406 Aft Cabin Motoryacht is a fine example of coastal cruise and loop motor yachts of the era, featuring a very functional 4-level layout that eliminates ladders completely and minimizes stairsteps between levels all the way from the bridge to the galley and staterooms... very popular with the older folks who still like the type but cannot handle ladders. From the moment you board the integrated swim platform nothing is more than five steps up or down.

Up on the bridge the view is great, with seating for six or more and easy communication with additional guests who may be just behind and below in the fully enclosed cockpit, so the captain can enjoy the company of guests while underway, the helm is ergonomic with full instrumentation and conventional split throttle/shift controls.

A few steps down is the cockpit, better described as a back porch, where doorways port and starboard give walkway access to the foredeck complete with snap-down sun pads, a molded staircase leads back down to the swim platform and a full-height double-doorway leads you down a five handrail equipped steps into the air-conditioned main cabin salon, roomy, well lighted and airy thanks to large bay windows. Four steps down a portside stairway takes you to the master stateroom, three steps down forward to the galley, convertible dinette, forward stateroom and guest head.

The aft master stateroom, with independent air conditioning system, is furnished with an oversized queen bed, custom cherrywood cabinets with plenty of drawer storage, hanging locker space, and a private head compartment with stall shower.

Powered by a pair of 370 hp Mercruiser 8.1S closed-circuit cooled, fuel injected big block V8 engines the boat cruises comfortably at 23 mph with a top speed approaching 30 if the conditions turn snotty and you need to outrun the weather. Other systems and machinery include hot and cold domestic water systems, plentiful DC and AC lighting, power receptacles, generous tankage for fresh water and waste, and a 10 kW generator which is currently (8/1/2024) inoperable and under repair.
