Overview
PY Fubbs. This 35' Custom Aluminum Paddle Yacht is a real head-turner, and one of the most photographed boats on the Bay. The yellow and white striped Surrey top and steam whistle make it more fun. This is the most maneuverable boat I have ever run and is great fun to drive. The LOA is 35'-6" with 12'-6" beam and less than 2' draft. The Cummins diesel powers two hydraulic pumps that control the side-wheels which have 9 "Feathered Bucket" articulated paddles. The PY Fubbs cruises easily at 10 Knots burning very little fuel, about 2 gallons per hour.
The PY Fubbs was built in 1987 as a one-off custom design by Tucker Marine in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was designed to be the fastest paddlewheeler on the Western Rivers and has never lost a paddlewheel race. Fubbs is 35'6 long with a beam of 126, a draft of 21 and constructed entirely of Aluminum. She is powered by a single 180 HP Cummins diesel that drives two Hydraulic pumps. Each sidewheel is driven by its own Hydraulic Motor. The 9 bucket Paddlewheels are Feathering Buckets that articulate to maximize the power as they pull through the water. The air horn is reminiscent of a steam whistle and very fitting for the boat. It is often seen cruising around the Magothy River or Annapolis and has been in several parades in Baltimore.
