Overview

This 1978 Trojan F44 Motor Yacht is not your typical late-1970s motor yacht. This vessel has been owned by the same owner for approximately 13 years and has been extensively restored and updated with the goal of preserving the character and substantial construction of this classic Trojan while making her comfortable and practical for today's boating.

Powered by twin naturally aspirated Detroit Diesel 6-71s with approximately 1,900 hours, she offers simple, proven diesel power with no electronic engine controls. A Phasor Marine 16kW generator provides plenty of power away from the dock. Recent running-gear maintenance includes new cutlass bearings and repacked shaft stuffing boxes, along with a new freshwater pump.

The interior is where LEAN WOLF really separates herself from many boats of this vintage. The traditional woodwork has been retained while the living spaces have received extensive updates. Teak-and-holly-style LVP flooring runs through the main cabin, complemented by a custom leather couch and matching club chairs. The dinette has been reupholstered, and updated lighting and finishes give the salon a much more contemporary feel without taking away from the boat's classic character.

The galley has also been substantially updated with newer countertops, tile backsplash, stainless-steel refrigerator, stainless sink and updated fixtures. There is excellent counter space and storage for a 44-foot motor yacht, making the boat well suited for extended cruising or living aboard.

Accommodations

One of the F44's greatest strengths is her interior volume. The full-beam aft master stateroom is exceptionally large and offers a true residential feel, with a large berth, extensive cabinetry and storage. Forward is a separate guest stateroom with twin V-berths. Combined with the convertible dinette and salon couch, the layout can accommodate a large family or cruising group.

There are two separate heads, both of which have been updated with VacuFlush toilets. Updated countertops, sinks, backsplashes and tilework give the head compartments a much fresher appearance, while a separate tiled shower provides considerably more space than is found aboard many newer boats of similar length.

A Classic Motor Yacht With Real Character

The Trojan F44 came from an era when a 44-foot motor yacht was designed around interior space, substantial machinery, generous accommodations and extended time aboard. The large enclosed aft deck creates another usable living area, while the elevated flybridge provides excellent visibility and plenty of room for guests. Wide side decks and substantial stainless-steel railings make moving around the exterior straightforward.

The photographs tell much of the story. This isn't an untouched 1978 boat with decades of deferred cosmetic work. The interior has clearly received considerable attention, while still retaining the warm woodwork and character that make these older Trojans appealing.

For someone looking for a classic American motor yacht, liveaboard, extended cruiser or comfortable weekend home on the water, she offers an unusual combination of space, proven Detroit Diesel power and extensive owner improvements.

She needs to be seen to appreciate how much has gone into her over the years. This is a distinctive classic motor yacht that has been cared for and updated rather than simply aged.
